What seems to be missing in stretchsitting explanation

I believe I can follow the directions you provide in the 8 Steps book, but you don't talk about how to adapt the technique to sitting while engaging in activity where you must look down, e.g. reading a book, or where you have to move around a lot (twisting, leaning side-to-side- or forward, etc.). What kind of posture do you maintain while doing these things, if in fact there is anything special at all?

If you would like to read while Stretchsitting, then we suggest getting a stand for your book or reading materials.  In this way, your head does not have to drop down to see the pages.

If you are doing quite a bit of activity while sitting, then Stacksitting may be the more appropriate solution, which is in Chapter 3 of 8 Steps to a Pain-Free Back.  While free of the backrest, your body has more options to move, since you are no longer attached.  If a lot of activity is required, then you would combine hip-hinging (Chapter 7) with Stacksitting.  I would definitely suggest, however, that you proceed through the chapters preceding Hip-hinging to ensure that you have good form before you attempt to hip-hinge.  Once you are feeling confident, and initiate your movements with a hinge, your spine will be protected without distortion.

Enjoy!
