Inner Corset Engagement

Hi,

How often is it recommended to engage your inner corset? I read in the book that for activities like running it's especially important but what about just a normal day? Should I be engaging my inner corset while i'm sitting, while i'm walking, while i'm showering, while i'm brushing my teeth, while i'm cooking, while i'm lying down, etc... I have a bulging disc in my lower back at L4-L5 if that makes any difference. Have been dealing with it for some time and feel like I have good abdominal strength but am sure they can always be stronger. I am also trying to focus on the chapters recommended by Esther. Thank you

What a great question!  The question could very well be 'How long is a piece of string?'!  There are so many answers.  For me I find I use my Inner Corset a lot.  I need a bit more than just the Rib Anchor for activities such as reaching (washing hair in the shower, putting laundry on the line, putting dishes away in a cupboard) as well as potentially damaging activities with impact like dancing, going up and down stairs, or activities with a bending component like doing laundry.  I also do it just for fun (!) when doing yoga poses like chair pose.  It can be fun to challenge myself in these ways.  You shouldn't need to do it when resting- although you could add a bit of stretch sitting or stretch-lying.  Some people do engage the Inner Corset when sitting or brushing their teeth if their back needs that extra support for those activities or they are in a bit of a flair up- just to add a bit of length in the back and trap it.  You can also do varying amounts of Inner Corset.  It doesn't have to be all or nothing.  Maybe 10% is all you need?  Maybe 50%?  Maybe more if it is a movement or activity with more potential to cause trouble.  I hope this explanation helps.  Keep up the good work!
